A well-maintained lawn is often considered the crown jewel of any property, adding aesthetic appeal and enhancing the overall ambiance.
However, achieving a healthy, lush lawn requires more than just regular mowing and occasional watering.
It necessitates a deep understanding of the specific needs and conditions of the turf.
This is where a Lawn Care Analysis comes into play, serving as the cornerstone of an effective lawn care regimen.
What is a Lawn Care Analysis?
A Lawn Care Analysis is a thorough assessment of the current state of a lawn conducted by trained professionals with expertise in horticulture and turf management.
This analysis provides valuable insights into the unique requirements of the grass, soil, and overall environment, enabling the formulation of a customized and effective lawn care plan.
Key Components of a Lawn Care Analysis
When you receive a lawn care analysis from one of our technicians, you will receive a form with analysis details. The details will include the categories below.
Lawn Characteristics
- Present Lawn Condition: The technician will determine the condition of your lawn as it is currently. They will select between Excellent, Good, and Fair.
- Grass Type: The technician will examine your grass to determine what type of grass you have in your yard. Bermuda grass, St. Augustine, Tall Fescue, and Zoysiagrass are the most common types. If you have a grass type other than these, they will fill in the type under other.
- Turf Density: The next step will be to see if the turf density is thin, average, or dense. They will note this for the front yard, backyard, side yard, and parkway.
- Color: They will also note the color of the grass, whether it is pale, green, or dark green. This will help them in making recommendations later on.
- Compaction: Lastly, they will check soil compaction. If there is minimal compaction, they will mark minimal. However, if compaction is present, an aeration will be recommended.
If you would like to learn more about aeration, you can check out the benefits of our lawn aeration service here!
Shade
Similar to turf density, the technician will check shadiness in the front yard, backyard, side yard, and parkway.
The categories fall under Sunny, Partially Shaded, Shade Too Dense, and Shade Decline Present.
This analysis will allow them to recommend the best watering and mowing practices for your lawn.
It may also allow them to give further recommendations, such as pruning trees back to lessen shade.
Weed Analysis
The following sections on the analysis form (weed analysis, lawn diseases, and insects) may or may not be present. For example, if your lawn is made of St. Augustine grass, the technician may mark Chickweed, Henbit, or Clover even if they are not currently present because they are very common broadleaf weeds that are often present in St. Augustine grass.
Controllable: Controllable weeds are separated into two categories. If you would like to learn more about specific weeds, check out our guide for grassy weeds and broadleaf weeds.
Difficult to Control: There are fewer difficult-to-control weeds than controllable ones. Among the most common are Oxalis, Violets, Buttonweed, Dallisgrass, Johnsongrass, King Ranch Bluestem, and Sandbur.
Lawn Diseases
As mentioned previously, just because a disease is checked does not mean it is currently present.
We will mark the form for the lawn diseases Brown Patch, Leaf Spot, and Take All Patch.
For instance, if your lawn is made of Bermuda grass, we may mark a brown patch (sometimes named large patch) on your form because brown patch is common in warm-season grasses during the early spring and late fall.
It helps us take the right steps and provide you with the best recommendations for the best results.
Presence of Insects
Similar to the previous categories, we may check your form for armyworms, chinch bugs, or grubs, even if they are not currently present.
This will allow us to keep an eye out for these specific issues for the best course of action.
